| 簡介內容 | The university of Malawi was founded in 1964 under the University of Malawi Act of 1974, which was later amended in 1998. The University of Malawi having been founded under government’s decree it remains to be a public institution under the Ministry of Education. The University remains to be the major breadbasket to the Malawi nation as far as tertiary-level human resource development is concerned. Since its establishment it has produced 21,669 graduates from all 5 constituent Colleges.
The University of Malawi although no longer the only institution of higher learning in Malawi, is still the biggest and oldest University in the country currently with an enrollment of over 5,000 students.
MISSION OF THE UNIVERSITY
The University was founded to advance knowledge and promote and wisdom and understanding by engaging in teaching and research and by making provision for the dissemination, promotion and preservation of learning by engaging in such University education and research as is responsive to the needs of Malawi and the whole world.
The 5 Colleges of the University are (in alphabetical order)
1.BUNDA COLLEGE situated in the capital city of Lilongwe in the Central Region of the country, 35.2 Km from the city center. The college has three faculties: The faculty of Agriculture, Environment Sciences, and Development Studies.
2.CHANCELLOR COLLEGE is a five-faculty college located in Zomba in the Southern Region of Malawi. Its faculties include Law, Education, Science, Humanities and Social Sciences.
3.COLLEGE OF MEDICINE has a main campus, which is located in Blantyre along the Mahatma Gandhi Road. It has one faculty, Medicine.
4.KAMUZU COLLEGE OF NURSING, with a single faculty of Nursing is made up of two Campuses one in Lilongwe, and the other one in Blantyre within the premises of the Queen Elizabeth Central Hospital.
5.POLYTECHNIC is located in the heart of the city of Blantyre. It has faculties of Applied Sciences, Commerce, Engineering and Education & Media.
In addition to the 5 Colleges the University of Malawi has a Central Administrative Office located in Zomba, with co-coordinating functions to the Colleges.
