備 註 | | 簡介內容 | Kyushu University has a long and distinguished history. Its origins can be traced back to 1903 when the Fukuoka Medical College - the direct predecessor of the present Faculty of Medical Sciences - was established and attached to Kyoto Imperial University. In 1911, the College was merged with the College of Engineering and officially opened as Kyushu Imperial University. Over the course of its history, Kyushu University has continued to expand. At present, there are eleven Undergraduate Schools, seventeen Graduate Schools, sixteen Faculties, three Research Institutes and one Hospital. In April 2000, Kyushu University introduced a new system of Graduate Schools - the first attempt of this kind at a Japanese university - as part of the overall reorganization of the university. The educational bodies (Undergraduate Schools and Graduate Schools) and research bodies (Faculties) became independent with all faculty members belonging to the Faculty. In this way, we are able to promote a more dynamic relationship between education and research. In October 2003, Kyushu University integrated with the Kyushu Institute of Design. We have established a new KANSEI Design School that will take advantage of the new art and design resources that are available. Moreover, in April 2004, as part of a government reform program, National Universities were organized as University Corporations. Kyushu University thus became a university managed by the National University Corporation, Kyushu University. Under Presidental leadership, the University is working hard to ensure success in the increasingly competitive environment created as a result of this reform. In response to changes in the global community, Kyushu University opened the new Ito Campus in the western part of Fukuoka City on October 1, 2005. This multi-year relocation plan was initiated with the partial transfer of the School of Engineering. The new campus, which is open to the community, is a place for students to enjoy both studying and daily life. Considering the changing situation around the world and the trend towards globalization, we are now focusing our activities on developing stronger ties with other Asian universities. In 2000 we inaugurated and hosted the Conference of Asian University Presidents with the express intent of formalizing dialogue among Asian universities on the significance of Asia, of establishing a cooperative network of universities that can contribute to the development of the Asian region in the 21st Century, and of affirming the importance of Asia to Kyushu University. We have been continuing this Conference, which has resulted in extended projects among each faculty member, students and administrative staff.
